Wow, it’s hot out today, but is it really hot? They say it is hot, but then there are those that say, oh, but it’s a dry heat! After living in Arizona for almost 25 years, I have to say that I am getting use to the heat, and don’t even get bothered by it any more. I almost enjoy sweating. Well, not when I am suppose to look good, all dressed up for a wedding, formal affair, in a tie for work, or such an occasion as that, but all in all, I think that it is not as bad as we all make it sound.
The great news about living in Arizona, in our extreme heat, is that after 3 or 4 months of this, then we get to experience 8-9 months of awesome weather. I am talking about wearing shorts in the winter, when everybody else in the country is shoveling snow, kind of weather. When it is 75 degrees in December and January, and you turn on the TV to watch the 6 o’clock news to see Buffalo at 20 degrees below zero with a wind chill of 43 below zero, having been snowing for the past 28 hours, already under 2 feet of snow with no relief in sight, you just say to yourself, thank you God that I live in Arizona. When I watch those news casts, I think about those hot summer days, and just say to myself, oh, but it’s a dry heat.
That’s how I look at my life here on earth, when times get tough as they do for all of us, I relate it to the dry heat. You see, my stay here on earth, is temporary, compared to eternity, so why should I worry too much about the short duration of time spent here. I mean, does it really matter if I accumulate a whole assortment of things for this temporary stay? If I do what God wants me to do while I am here, which is to tell others about Him and about His plan of salvation, in turn giving Him glory from my life, then it really doesn’t matter that much what I accumulate. We can weather the storms of life, so to speak, that are thrown our way, if we realize that they are only for a short while. We just need to understand that Jesus wants us to focus on the things eternal, not of the earthly things.
It we do acknowledge that our stay here is short lived, in other words, relate it to the Arizona dry heat scenario, then we can easily weather any storms that come our way, because we are keeping our eyes on a much bigger prize, the eternal prize of heaven with the creator of the universe. It’s like when we hang out here in Arizona for a few months in 115-120 degree weather, I even remember when it was 122 degrees on June 26, 1990, it still is only temporary, because the gorgeous 75 degree winters are just around the corner.
The next time life brings you a hurdle, regardless if it is a financial, relational, physical, spiritual or whatever it is, try to remember that this is a temporary stay, and that we can make it through this life, because we have God to help and guide us through. Jesus says to us in Mark 11:24 “Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.” This is so key, we need to remember that we don’t have to go through life alone, we have the creator here with us, He wants to be with us in this trek, side by side, all the way. All we need to do, is talk to Him, He is there waiting for us. The door is open, He loves the conversations.
Let’s don’t do this life thing alone, let’s include God, the one who made us, in the program. He wants to go along for the ride, and He will give us the comfort we need, through the Holy Spirit, when times get a little rough, because they will. We are human, after all, and no matter what, we will struggle, so we need to lean on God for help. Oh, but it’s a dry heat, but it’s also a beautiful sunset when we get to view it at the end of the day. While we are here, let’s give him all the glory in everything we do, and make each and every day count. Our lives can be joyful, if we want them to, we just need to adjust our focus to God. When it seems like it is 122 degrees in our life, just remember, in a short while, it will be 75 degrees, and we will be wearing shorts, feeling very comfortable. Oh, but it’s a dry heat, not for very long, HERE COMES THE COOL LOVELY WINTER WEATHER! Thank you God for all you do for us.
Have a blessed day,
Daryl Dho
